A driver who deliberately ran down and killed a man with his car after a row outside an east London restaurant has been jailed for life.
Trevelle Rowland, 34, was convicted of murder after using his Volkswagen Tiguan to fatally strike Fergany Mvuezolo, 35, following an argument outside a restaurant in East Ham.
He was sentenced on Thursday at Inner London Crown Court and must serve a minimum of 22 years.
Detective Inspector Aytac Necati, who led the investigation, said: "Rowland is an extremely dangerous man.
"He used his car as a weapon against three men – one of whom tragically lost his life.
"Rowland is also a devious liar.
"He misled police about the initial attack, in which he ran his car into a pair of security guards over a trivial dispute – only to go on to kill another man using the exact same method.
"We would like to express our sympathies to the family of Fergany Mvuezolo, and to Rowland’s two living victims.
"The defendant has left a trail of destruction in his wake."
The incident took place in the early hours of March 24, 2024.
Emergency services were called to Barking Road in East Ham at around 5.20am.
Mr Mvuezolo was found severely injured and was pronounced dead at the scene.
CCTV footage revealed that Rowland had argued with Mr Mvuezolo before leaving, only to return a short time later in his car and deliberately drive into him as he stood on the pavement.
The court also heard about a similar attack 10 months earlier.
On May 29, 2023, Rowland used his vehicle to injure two doormen outside a pub in Barking after being asked to remove his baseball cap.
He became enraged, got into his car, and drove at the pub’s security staff.
One was thrown onto the bonnet and sustained knee and ankle injuries; the other suffered a minor injury to his hand.
Rowland later went to a police station to try to reclaim the vehicle, claiming he had rented the vehicle to an associate.
However, both victims identified him as the attacker.
Following the killing of Mr Mvuezolo, Rowland attempted to flee the country.
He was apprehended at Heathrow Airport with his partner.
When stopped, Rowland was found carrying a receipt from the restaurant where the fatal collision had occurred.
The jury found Rowland guilty of murder, two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm, and dangerous driving.
He was also disqualified from driving until 2049 and must pass an extended driving test before regaining his licence after release.
