Thousands of protesters marched to the US embassy in central London yesterday calling for the end to strikes on Iran.
Between 5,000 and 6,000 protesters marched from Millbank to the US embassy in Nine Elms, Wandsworth, on Saturday afternoon (March 7), according to a police officer who was walking alongside the crowd.
Groups including the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Stop The War, and Palestine Solidarity Campaign led the march, with many protesters carrying Iranian and Palestinian flags.
Some waved placards reading "Stop Trump’s Wars" and "No War on Iran", while others carried portraits of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed in the opening strike of the war last Saturday.
The Metropolitan Police stepped up patrols before the event, and has since confirmed on X that there were four arrests in connection with the protest.
The force said: "A woman in her 60s has been arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred in relation to a placard."
It later added: "The Hands off Iran rally has now concluded.
"There were three further arrests.
"One for possession of an offensive weapon and another for racially aggravated public order offences in relation to a chant.
"A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder in relation to an incident which occurred yesterday in Maida Vale."
