The Liberal Democrats have retained control of Kingston Council following the 2026 local elections.

The party continues to dominate the borough with 44 seats, unchanged from the previous election and comfortably above the 25 needed for a majority.

The Conservatives now hold just two seats, down by one, while Residents’ groups have increased their presence to two seats, up by one.

Kingston upon Thames is a Liberal Democrat stronghold and was widely expected to remain so, with the party having built a stable base in southwest London.
