A woman has claimed that people are becoming desensitised to violence as a man is left with potentially life-changing injuries after a late-night stabbing in Colindale.
Officers cordoned off a row of homes at Booth Road - between Colindale and Burnt Oak - with a pool of blood spotted outside following the attack yesterday (July 1) just after 11pm.
Emergency services flooded the scene, with neighbours crowding around at night to see what happened.
A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with injuries that are believed to be potentially life-changing.
Today (July 2), officers were at the scene and tape blocked off road access along a section of the road, with cars being turned away from the scene.
One person who spoke to London Now said: “I live a few minutes away, and I knew something happened when I saw the blue lights from my window.
”There were sirens all night and I heard the road was blocked off.”
Another woman, who lives near to the crime scene, said: “After it happened I was there, saw police everywhere.
“I didn’t hear any screaming before but there was a guy who kept swearing.
“I didn’t know what actually happened until after I went to see police there.
“When I told my nine-year-old daughter she almost just shrugged, it’s not a shock anymore because in London it happens all the time.
“We had one in Montrose Park, we had one in Grahame Park.”
While some locals told London Now it’s relatively safe in the area, this woman scoffed at the idea.
She said: “As a woman, and as a mother with a girl, I don’t feel safe.“
The mother added: “The issue here are burglaries. It keeps happening again and again.
“Have you ever felt like you’re being watched before? There was one time I was in the garden and had that feeling, I rushed in.”
She explained that after her husband spotted a man in their shed trespassing and trying to steal items.
According to the mum, this is a common occurrence in the area and the threat of burglary is one many of her neighbours have faced.
It is also a concern that has been echoed by other people who have spoken to London Now today.
A next door neighbour just a few homes down from the attack said: “Normally it’s quite quiet. Not much happens around here.
”The only issues are burglaries here.”
No arrests have been made at his stage and enquiries continue.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “We recognise the concern that this incident will cause the local community and have increased police patrols in the area.”
