A four-time winning Paralympic medallist is frustrated after burglars broke into his home in Muswell Hill and stole a safe containing his medals.
Michaël Jérémiasz, who won a gold medal in the men’s doubles at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, says he feels “empty” following the burglary on Sunday (July 19).
Police were called at 10.14pm to reports of the break-in.
CCTV shows that two masked men entered earlier that evening and stole a safe.
Mr Jérémiasz has revealed that this contained his Beijing gold medal, along with silver and bronze Athens medals from 2004 and a bronze from the 2012 London Paralympics.
The 44-year-old said: "I feel a bit empty to be honest, I had those medals, well the first one for 22 years.
“It’s something you’d like to share in 10 years time to your grandchildren, it’s sad."
The athlete said that these medals are financially not worth much due to it being engraved and registered stolen, but it’s the sentimental value which has left him upset.
He continued: "They’re not that valuable - so it’s very frustrating because they’re not replaceable.
"At the end of the day it is material stuff, but for me it’s quite intimate and personal.
"I just hope that if those people realise the impact it has, they can just drop it somewhere and let me know to give it back.
"I’d almost forgive them if they make sure those medals can come back."
According to Mr Jérémiasz, this is the second break-in he has had this year.
In February, burglars entered the property but did not steal anything.
"They came back and they knew what they were coming for," he said.
No arrests have been made at this time but an investigation is ongoing.
Mr Jérémiasz says that he has notified dealers and auction houses.

The Paralympian has also offered for the burglars to return the medals anonymously through any police station, fire station, church or charity shop.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Officers attended and carried out a search of the property.
"CCTV enquiries indicate that two masked men entered the premises earlier that evening and stole what is believed to be a safe.
"No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.
"Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD7482/19JUL26."
