Clapham High Street stabbing - Six arrested after man dies

Six men have been arrested after a man died and four others were injured in a mass stabbing incident in Clapham.

A 22-year-old man died after he self-presented with stab wound injuries at a south London hospital on July 27 at 4.37am.

Officers were informed about the knife incident and it was established that the incident took place on Clapham High Street.

Four other men also attended with stab wounds.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, however, they remain in hospital.

The four men—three aged 22 and one 24—have since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Two further men, aged 23 and 27, were also arrested at the hospital on suspicion of murder.

The road is closed both ways from Clapham Manor Street to Tremadoc Road.

Bus routes—including the 50, 88, 155, 322, and 345—are diverted.

According to officers at the scene, the cordon will remain in place all day.

A parade of shops and venues—including PureGym, from which many are being turned away—will remain closed for the day.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our enquiries are progressing quickly, and we understand that the victim was stabbed at around 04:20 hrs close to Tremadoc Road in Clapham.

"Those in the area will continue to notice an increased police presence throughout the day as these enquiries continue.

"Officers have arrested six men on suspicion of murder and we are working quickly to establish what has happened."

Superintendent Mark Gallacher, a policing lead for the area, said: "This is a tragic incident and our officers continue to support the family of the young man who has sadly died.

"We understand that this will cause concern among the local community and specialist detectives are doing everything possible to determine what has happened.

"We are asking anyone with any information or anyone who may have witnessed anything in the early hours to contact us and support with the ongoing investigation."
