A person has been taken to hospital after a stabbing in Chingford, according to an MP.

Sir Iain Duncan Smith, MP for Chingford and Woodford Green, has reported that there was a knife incident on Shadbolt Avenue on July 25 at 3.24 pm.

The MP, who says he has spoken to the Metropolitan Police, says that the victim - a male - received first aid from officers before he was taken to an east London hospital.

According to Sir Iain, an arrest has been made.

The Metropolitan Police has been approached to verify these details, but we are yet to hear a response at the time of publication.

Sir Iain said on a Facebook post to his constituents: "I know that news of this incident will be upsetting and concerning for local residents.

"The police have assured me that the suspect and victim are known to each other and that there is no wider risk to the public at this time.

"I want to reassure residents that I take these incidents extremely seriously.

"I am in regular contact with the Police and local partners, and I am committed to tackling violence and keeping our streets safe.

"Our community deserves to feel safe.

"I will continue working closely with the police, listening to residents' concerns, and pushing for the resources and action needed to address crime and protect our neighbourhoods."
