A person has died following a serious crash in east London early this morning.
The incident happened on Aspen Way in Poplar, near Canary Wharf, shortly after 3am today (August 5), with emergency services called to reports of a road traffic collision.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We sent ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer.
"We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
"Very sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene."
Aspen Way and the East India Dock Tunnel were closed in both directions from the Prestons Road roundabout following the crash.
This has caused significant disruption, with traffic backing up past the Canning Town Flyover and the Lower Lea Crossing.
The route between the East India Dock Road Tunnel and Prestons Road was heavily affected.
Public transport was also impacted, with bus routes D3, SL4, and N550 diverted in both directions via East India Dock Road.
As a result, stops at Leamouth Road, East India Station, and Baffin Way were not served.
Images from nearby traffic cameras showed the scene cordoned off with police and emergency vehicles in attendance.
Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
