An air ambulance has been called to the scene of a serious crash on the M25 in Surrey, causing major delays and a closure of the motorway.
The collision, involving two vehicles, was reported at 12.25pm today (August 14) on the anticlockwise carriageway just past Junction 9 at Leatherhead.
Both sides of the motorway and the slip road were closed to allow the air ambulance to land safely.
A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "There are road closures in place on the M25 following a collision on the anticlockwise carriageway of the M25 just past J9.
"The carriageway was temporarily closed on both sides on the junction and slip road to allow the air ambulance to land.
"The injured party has been taken to hospital by road and we expect the air ambulance to be lifting before too long and the carriageways should reopen after this, but please avoid the area where possible and use alternative routes for the time being or factor in this potential delay to your journey."

The M25 clockwise carriageway reopened at Junction 9 after a 50-minute closure, but long delays remained, with congestion stretching back to Junction 8 at Reigate.
The incident was moved to the hard shoulder to allow traffic to flow again.
Traffic was also stopped on the opposite carriageway during the air ambulance response.
Images from National Highways showed vehicles at a standstill as emergency services worked at the scene.
